Roam the 15th Century remains of Carrigafoyle Castle and its medieval church, and enjoy views of the Shannon estuary and the small island of Carrig.
Built between 1490 and 1500, Carrigafoyle Castle is considered one of the strongest Irish fortresses. It stands on a rock in a small bay off the Shannon estuary, and its name is an Anglicisation of the Irish, Carraig an Phoill or "rock of the hole".
Explore this listed National Monument and the stunning views that its battlements offer of the estuary. Walk out on the very dock that the O'Connors of Kerry used to inspect ships passing to and from Limerick during their reign of power in the 1500s.
