Great Blasket Island Looped Walk takes in the mountain summit and is a 3.5 hours walk along the beautiful scenic tracks on the uninhabited island of Blasket in County Kerry. It is a relatively easy walk and is suitable for most walkers. The Island was inhabited until 1953 by an Irish speaking population and lies 2km from the mainland with a ferry service from Dunquin Pier during the summer.
For those who desire nothing more challenging then a leisurely stroll there are well defined green roads that lead up the North side and return on the South side of the Island. These paths offer phenomenal views of the surrounding islands. For the more eager walker, the length of the Great Blasket Island makes for a wonderful experience. It is advisable to have good walking boots, a mobile phone and rain gear when walking on the hillside or mountains terrain.
