Oranmore Castle is an 800 year old national monument located on the coastline of Galway Bay. The 13th century Norman castle was built by William De Burgo (Burke) and was the seat of the Clanricarde’s for over 500 years later becoming home to Galway wine merchants the Athy and Blake families.
Oranmore Castle is opening two of its guest rooms to a couple who wish to experience staying the night in an authentic castle steeped in ancient Irish history.
The Great Hall is a large open space with a church like roof reaching heights of over 30 feet and is heated by a wood burning stove with a couch to sit, relax and take in the stunning heart of this historical structure.
The village is a short 500 metre walk with excellent restaurants, pubs and cafés or one can have dinner delivered and dine in the Great Hall by candle light.
Galway City is 9km away, with taxis and regular buses to the city centre within a short walk and the train station is 2km walk away from the castle. Shannon Airpost is around 1 hour drive and Dublin Airport is around 2 hour drive away from the castle.
