Starting at Gortlecka Crossroads, Lough Avalla Farm Loop is a seriously magical 5.2km walk through traditional working farmland. This moderate trail then sweeps the shores of idyllic Lough Avalla.
Taking place within the wild and rugged Burren National Park, walkers are treated to diverse, inspiring landscapes at every turn.
Taking 2.5 hours to complete, the terrain consists of sandy roadways, farm tracks, green roads, woodland trails and open limestone pavement. The loop also includes an ascent to an ancient stone cairn, some high cliffs and a mix of stone fields and pastures boasting incredible views, particularly of Mullaghmore – County Clare’s 180m-high limestone hill.
As the loop traverses working farm, you’re sure to spot grazing sheep, goats and cattle too.
On the final leg, be sure to drop into the farm homestead. Dutch organic farmer Harry Jeuken has added this incredible trail to his working farm and often welcomes walkers with tea and a friendly chat.
