Explore Ireland: useful tips to stay safe this autumn
Travel advice
It’s finally time to rediscover Ireland. Go beyond your village, town or city and get back to exploring the length and breadth of our marvellous country. Embrace 2020 as the COVID-19 Safety Charter helps you to stay safe.

Remember, the opening hours may have changed for some of of our tourism sites, activities, attractions and experiences so please make sure to check with them directly before you travel to make the very most of your trip.

What is the COVID-19 Safety Charter?

The COVID-19 Safety Charter tells you that a business is following the necessary safety guidelines so you can relax on a holiday at home this summer. When you see the charter’s reassuring green and white Safety Check symbol, know that every employee in the business has taken extensive training and is working hard so that you have a safe and enjoyable experience.

What does a business have to do to receive the charter?

To earn the charter, staff are educated in infection control and they must take strict hygiene measures. Tourism businesses that have successfully completed the COVID-19 Safety Charter are subject to spot checks.

From the friendly receptionist at the front desk to the head chef who dreams up the delicious tasting menu, every staff member is following key safety guidelines so that you can enjoy yourself with confidence.

Where can you see the charter?

Businesses that have the charter share the symbol on their official websites and in their front windows, check out a detailed version of the COVID-19 Safety Charter.

For tourism industry partners, you can get further information on the Fáilte Ireland corporate website which is being updated regularly.

Staying safe on your staycation in Ireland

While the charter puts your safety first, remember what you can do to stay safe when exploring the scenic lakes of Cavan or the medieval streets of Kilkenny. On a family day out or a weekend trip away, take the recommended government measures to keep safe. Book a staycation to the seaside resort of Ballinskelligs or head to the glorious city of Galway but remember to wash your hands regularly and pop some hand sanitiser in your bag.

Social distancing is important, keep a space of two metres between yourself and others where possible, wear face coverings on public transport and in shops, and avoid close contact including shaking hands and hugs. If you sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your sleeve.

Fáilte Ireland is working closely with the Government and the tourism industry as the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation evolves. Check out the HSE guidelines and the World Health Organisation for the latest advice about COVID-19. Businesses reopening around Ireland can seek advice on the Fáilte Ireland COVID-19 Support Hub, this page is updated regularly with new information.
