The Donegal Designer Makers gallery shop is run as a collective by the artists themselves and began a number of years ago in Ardara, Donegal. It has been steadily gaining a reputation since as one of the best outlets for locally produced handmade craft/design in the area.
Donegal has been known as a home of craft design for centuries, from the jewellery of the Bronze Age to the weaving of tweed in the last few hundred years. Today these traditions are both alive and open to contemporary development as new generations of artists allow the landscape to work its magic on their creative imaginations.
On display is a range of beautiful ceramics, papercraft, photography, batik, jewellery, wood-turning and much more available at prices ranging from €5 to €500. Themed exhibitions are also held regularly on the premises with the chance to buy some unique collectible pieces.
Staffed by an experienced staff and by the craft makers themselves, there will always be someone there to explain how the work is made and help you make that choice, whether an exclusive collector's piece, wedding present or a memento of your visit.
When planning your visit to this wonderful corner of the Wild Atlantic Way make sure to include it on your itinerary.
