Sandymount Strand is located approximately 4km south east of Dublin City centre.
The promenade runs along the coast road from Sandymount Strand to Merrion Gates with beautiful views towards the Poolbeg Lighthouse, Howth, and Dun Laoghaire. Ballsbridge and Mount Merrion are neighbouring suburbs.
The Martello Tower is a well known local landmark, frequented by James Joyce, who wrote two episodes of Ulysses in that location. Another significant feature is the sculpture entitled An Cailín Bán by the Mexican artist Sebastian, located at the northern end of Sandymount Promenade.
The strand is a popular area among locals and tourists for leisurely walks at any time of the year. Be aware of strong incoming tides.
