To mark Dublin Pride 2024, Chester Beatty are screening Lili Elbe's film The Danish Girl starring Eddie Redmayne this June.

The remarkable love story of transgender pioneer Lili Elbe (Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne) and artist Gerda Wegener (Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander) provides the inspiration for this beguiling biopic from director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables), set in early 20th century Paris and Copenhagen. When Gerda asks her husband to fill in as a portrait model in her studio, Lili discovers a world beyond traditional gender boundaries and embarks on a ground-breaking journey towards finding her true self.
