The grounds of the Esker Monastery Retreat are beautiful. With three large sand hills, two of which are covered with trees and criss-crossed with walks, many people head to Esker just to walk around and experience the peace of the place. They welcome all and are glad to see people come and go, since they believe in the special aura of Esker. There is a church, a retreat house, and youth village on the grounds.
The Redemptorists first came to Esker in 1901. As a religious community, they offer parish missions and novenas in the dioceses of Clonfert, Raphoe, Achonry, Elphin, Tuam, Galway, Killala, and Killaloe.
All visitors are welcomed at the monastery, from those who wish to seek confession or consultation to those who wish to have objects blessed.
The mission of Esker Monastery Retreat is to offer an oasis of peace and tranquility. It's the ideal escape from the stresses of modern life; a place to commune with God and nature and to reflect on life.
There is a wide range of courses and programmes available, with conference facilities on offer as well. Large or small, religious or secular groups and individuals are welcome to enjoy the beauty of Esker for retreats, holidays, and more. A private chapel is on the grounds, and private retreats are available on request.
