Popular with locals, The Kings Head bar is often a first stop for visitors to the City of the Tribes. The building itself is over 800 years old and gets its name from its historic links to the execution of King Charles 1st in 1649.
The Kings Head is now owned and managed by Mary and Paul Grealish. Since 1989, the Grealish family has worked to establish a close link to the music and the arts scene of Galway. The pub has free live music on the main stage seven nights a week along with regular stand-up comedy and lunchtime theatre in the pocket sized venue on the top floor.
The Kings Head is committed to sourcing only local ingredients, grown and produced in the West of Ireland, for its day and evening bistro and bar menus. They choose sustainable and organic produce wherever possible. The Kings Head food has expanded considerably over the years but has always been based on the core principle 'if it’s fresh, local and in season, it goes on the menu’. It also has a wide selection of whiskeys in the Irish Whiskey Bar.
With a unique atmosphere, great cocktails and craft beers, as well as late bars every weekend, The Kings Head has built a reputation for a friendly welcome. With live music, comedy, hearty food and great craic over three floors, it is clear to see why it is one of the busiest pubs in the heart of Galway.
