Bearna Breac is a large wooded area a short distance from Windgap Village (Bearna na Gaoithe) in County Kilkenny. Both the Bearna Breac and Bearna na Gaoithe are named for their location on a pass through the hills east of Slievenamon.

Windgap is an area steeped in history and rich in culture. Bearna Breac and Bearna na Gaoithe are two of the seven gaps of Sliabh Dile (the ancient name for Slievenamon). Both lie in a former slate quarrying district spanning the Kilkenny/Tipperary border.

The walk is a haven for the lovers of the great outdoors and unspoilt nature. Set off from the car park at the lake, situated in the village. Follow the red arrow and travel for 200m via the village and following the roadway you ascend gently for approximately 1.5 km. Take in the picturesque views of Carrigadoon on your left, the Comeragh Mountains and Slievenamon. Follow the signage and the entrance to the wood is on your left. Experience the freedom of the great outdoors where nature is on full display. There are at least nine varieties of butterfly in the area. Meander through the Bearna Breac and enjoy the spectacular views.

As you descend back towards the village, scan the panorama of the peaceful colourful countryside, taking in the view of Carraig na gCapall which overlooks the village and the Blackstairs Mountain Range, keeping watch in the distance.
