Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre houses an exhibition about the 1916 Proclamation signatory Seán MacDiarmada. The exhibition contains an audio visual facility and interpretive panels, providing visitors with information about Seán MacDiarmada and the history of the locality.
You can also take guided tours to Seán MacDiarmada’s house, that will take you on a journey through time. Travel through scenic countryside from Seán’s memorial statue to the glacial valley of Corranmore. Step into the past to arrive at the preserved vernacular cottage of the MacDiarmada homestead. The cottage is of considerable historic importance, as it is the only original existing homeplace of any of the seven signatories of the Proclamation. It is also a fine example of a traditional Irish cottage, offering an insight into what life was like over 100 years ago.
There is a statue of Seán MacDiarmada, dating from 1940, just a short distance away.
