The Gastro Lounge at Scholars Townhouse Hotel is set in a restored 1867 Victorian townhouse, previously resided by Drogheda's Christian Brother Community. The building is fully wheelchair accessible and offers complimentary parking and free wifi.
The bar and lounge are both surrounded by oak panelled walls and paintings depicting scenes of local history. The open fire gives a sense of comfort and warmth. The bar boasts an extensive selection of over 100 different whiskey's, complimented by a fine selection of scotch and brandy. There is an abundance of wines of all varieties served by the glass. The traditional coffee machine is a great focal point with professionally trained baristas serving everything from liqueur coffee to beautifully crafted cocktails.
The blackboards are listed with a range of craft beers that can be paired with a well structured rustic menu with tasty nibbles such as wings, oysters, mussels and crab claws. The craft beer is well integrated into the menu in the form of O'Haras beer battered cod. The smoking area is decorated nicely and is a regular haunt of Drogheda's Cigar club. The piano is available for anybody that can master it and it creates an excellent atmosphere, otherwise there are well selected playlists with any particulars available upon request.
The local area is steeped in history with Drogheda the Gateway to the Boyne Valley surrounded by Newgrange, the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge, Millmount Tower and St Lawrence's Gate. Taxis, a bus station and a train station are all within five minutes walking distance and retail outlets are not in short supply.
