Take a guided tour around the 1.5 km path of Bee Wise Nature Trail to learn more about the pollinators, particularly the bees. Explore the large variety of flowering and fruiting hedgerows planted for the wildlife, interspersed with areas of wild flowers to attract bees, butterflies and insects. Following the walk, visitors are shown the inside of a honeybee hive from empty to full frames. Some of these are placed in a glass spinner to show the process of honey extraction. Then you have a chance to taste the honey.
You will see different types of habitats built on the trail to show how simple they are to recreate in your own garden, such as the creeping thyme lawn in the picnic area. Read some fun facts along the way and relax on one of the many benches as birds sing while butterflies and bees surround you. The paths are wheelchair friendly.
Children can enjoy nature at their own pace, in a safe environment, by exploring the sensory garden, a sensory tunnel, the fairy village, a maze and an outdoor games room. Tea and coffee, light snacks and Bee Wise products are available for sale.
Bee Wise Nature Trail is open for private tours all year round. Members of the general public are welcome on open days and special seasonal events, which are booked via the website.
