Take on an easy 4.2km walk while immersing yourself in rich local heritage on the Monaghan Greenway. This pretty shared walking and cycling route follows the old Ulster Canal towpath

Explore Monaghan Town’s pleasant urban and rural landscapes on this linear 4.2km greenway.

Taking just 45 minutes to complete, this charming walking and cycling track is generally flat with some gentle slopes and is wheelchair accessible, suitable for family groups and people of all fitness levels.

Following the verdant towpath of the disused Ulster Canal, walkers will spot heritage structures along the waterway and quaint reminders of times past, including three bridges, a lock house and two canal locks.

This wonderful route passes close to many of Monaghan Town’s residential and commercial areas. You’re sure to find a welcoming spot for that post-walk cup of coffee.
