There is a wide variety of gardens open for viewing, ranging from the gardens of the great old houses, to smaller gardens and garden centres.
A number of the older gardens have been lovingly restored through the years, while the smaller ones are maturing beautifully with time. Group visits are welcome and owners of many of the gardens are available to talk about their garden (by appointment).
Visiting a garden here in Waterford is an especially rich experience, as many of the great old houses also offer guided tours of their properties, which give the visitor a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Waterford’s rich heritage, part of Ireland’s Ancient East.
The Waterford Garden Trail offers something special for both the novice and experienced gardener. Many days can be spent enjoying a rich variety of flora and fauna species, all of which contribute to the uniqueness of the gardening attractions on the trail. As the gardens are geographically located throughout the county with some in close proximity to the new Waterford Greenway, visitors will also have the opportunity to drive through some of the most spectacularly beautiful countryside, from the wild rugged Comeragh mountain range which frames the county to the north, to the majestic and breathtaking Copper Coast to the south. Symbols are used to highlight the facilities available at each of the properties (see Brochure for table of symbols).
